Evidence of Program Effectiveness

The PATHS® curriculum is one of the few Social Emotional Learning programs that has been well researched using strong experimental designs. As a result, the PATHS® curriculum has received high recognition and recommendations from a variety of national and international organizations.


A series of randomized controlled trials with intervention vs. control schools or groups of children (using one or more years of PATHS® curriculum implementation with pre, post, and follow-up data) has been conducted over the past two decades.

Evaluations have been conducted with differing populations of students, including students in regular education, and students with a variety of special needs including deaf/hearing impaired, learning-delayed, and those with significant behavioral problems. Findings indicated that the PATHS® curriculum was successful in both significantly increasing protective factors for healthy development, classroom engagement and learning, and in reducing behavioral and emotional problems in all of these populations.
