International Spotlight-Barnardo's of Northern Ireland PATHS® Project
Barnardo's Northern Ireland has adapted a proven international model of intervention on Social and Emotional Regulation (PATHS® Programme) and married this with a targeted programme "Friendship Group" to create PATHS® Plus. This project has been funded under the Realising Ambition programme, supported by Catch 22 and the Big Lottery Fund.
Senior Programme Coordinator for both the the PATHS® and PATHS® Plus projects, Mairead Ewart has this to say, "The PATHS® Plus project is having a very positive impact on children across the UK. Not only are PATHS® skills being taught and generalised across the school day, but in addition to this, the Friendship Group element is assisting children with additional social and emotional needs to practise these skills in small group settings. We have seen an improvement in emotional vocabulary, children are getting better at managing their own behaviour, and problems are easier solved using PATHS® strategies. The PATHS® Plus team are committed to helping children build on these skills through our coaching and implementation model, and through additional training. Not only are we delivering training to teachers, additional school staff and parents, we have recently developed training for children in KS2 to become PATHS® Playground Buddies. Now the children are teaching and generalising PATHS® strategies in the playground and coaching their younger peers in playing PATHS® playground games."

Hope the new school year is off to a great start!
This is a great video about a boy who came up with an idea to help his fellow students who may be feeling lonely on the playground. It's called the Buddy Bench! Find out more about the Buddy Bench and how it might be a great way to connect students at your school.
