Important SEL Briefing on Capitol Hill

April 24, 2014

A briefing will be held on Capitol Hill on April 30 2014 at 12:00pm, and will focus on the importance of social-emotional learning (SEL) and how essential SEL skills are for success in school and life.  It will highlight effective SEL programs at a variety of stages of the educational system, from early learning through college and career prep.

We know you understand how important it is for kids to learn social-emotional skills through evidence-based programs. Now make sure your representatives know! Please ask your member of Congress to attend an upcoming briefing on Capitol Hill.

The briefing will feature:
  • Tim Shriver, chairman and CEO of Special Olympics and chair of the board of directors of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL)
  • Maurice Elias, director of Rutgers University Social-Emotional and Character Development Lab
  • Janice Deguchi, executive director of the Denise Louie Educational Center
  • Keeth Matheny, teacher at Austin High School and SEL adjunct instructional coach

Let's tell Congress that SEL skills help students succeed in school and also prepare them for future roles as citizens, employees, managers, parents, volunteers, and entrepreneurs.

The briefing is being held by Committee for Children and CASEL.
